i don't know how to accept compliments.

whenever anybody says anything nice to me i say, “oh … thanks …” and stand there awkwardly, not making eye contact and wondering whether or not i should say something nice to them, too. but i don’t like complimenting someone only after they’ve complimented me, it seems cheap & insincere. but is it just common courtesy? i have no idea.

There are so many things that I would love to do. I can see them whirling around me, like post-it notes and polaroids in a slow, languorous tornado around my body. I can’t move my arms and hands and fingers quickly enough to catch them, and my fingers are so weak that I can’t take hold. I look at my own face, outside of myself, in the most objective glance that I can muster.

Sometimes the hardest things to do take the shortest amount of time, especially when you already know what the outcome is going to be.

I don’t think about marriage or what my kids will look like. I don’t think that matters right now. It’s dreaming, I guess. Don’t get me wrong. I have no problem with dreaming, but that’s just not what I tend to think about.

I think about what I’ll do next, the plans I have this week, and who I’d like to have coffee with (which is usually always the same person).

Something more simple.

I don’t want to be married til I hit at least 25.
